Always powered ours out the Cape Cod Canal (well, not through it against
the current) and through Woods Hole either way with no problem.

There is a school of thought that you need 1 HP for each 500 LB of
displacement. A 9,000 LB boat would require an 18 HP engine. My 32 weighs
9,000 lb has the 3GM which is perfectly adequate and generates about 22 HP.

Makes sense- My F33 weighs 14000 lb wet,and is powered adequately by a
Yanmar 3GM30F 27 hp. Some say +/- 1 hp/ft LWL-also close
