Mast Head Sail

Has anyone seen or installed winches and runners necessary for a
masthead asymetrical spinnaker or other masthead head sail?

See if Freedom will give their blessing on this alteration before you
do it. I’ve heard several times that there are 2 absolute rules
about my F32’s carbon fiber mast:

  1. Do not drill any holes in it for any reason.

  2. Do not rig a forestay.

Get Freedom’s input about this before you rig a foresail to the
masthead. As I understand it, the mast is plenty strong enough for a
jib or spinnaker up to the hounds but a masthead one can pull it
down. A spinnaker has a lot of pull. A “light air only” chute might
be OK but, still, Mr. Murphy lurks everywhere.

My chute only goes to the hounds but a friend gave me an extra light
air genoa on indefinite loan that I sometimes fly on the forestay
above the lowered Beirig jib. It’s only up to the hounds and it comes
down when I see double digit wind speeds. So far this is barely
beyond the experimental stage. It seems to improve the pointing
ability a tiny amount but it seems to give much better “punch” in
light air but sloppy waves, it has more power but not necessarily
more raw speed. It’s only worthwhile for keeping going in a chop. I
really haven’t found myself using it all that often.
