I’m splashing in my F-25 next Tuesday. I’m guessing the crane will step the mast
as well. My
questions: What do I need to do before the mast is stepped, in terms of rigging?
Also, I’ve
never rigged an F-25 before. Any suggestions?
Look in the files section of this site, F25 info, and in there is an
F25 manual. There are rigging diagrams in there.
If you have a wing mast, you might want to check the condition of the
mast bearing before stepping the mast. You’ll find info on that in the
F25 file too.

I already had the manual. It doesn’t show how to attach mast tiller. Also, does
the F-25
have a topping lift? Also, is the mast light enough to step with a few stout
guys handling
it?>

The mast tiller has a hole in it. When I first got my F25, there was
a 1/4" line with a knot at one end that went up through the hole and
to a clam cleat on the boom. After the line broke a couple of times,
I bought a great big shackle, put the pin through the hole in the mast
tiller, and tied off the line to the shackle.
My boat has no topping lift. At least one other owner bought a rigid
vang from Garhauer and had a custom ring made that sits on the deck
around the mast tube. The vang attached to that at the forward end. I
tried to experiment with a boomkicker but don’t have a satisfactory
set-up yet.
Don’t know about manhandling the mast up. I used a crane. Wing mast
weighs about 150-160 lbs if I remember rightly, with weight
concentrated at the lower end. I’d want something mechanical holding
it, especially as it travels into and down the mast tube, landing
delicately on its bearing post. It’s a good idea to have someone
inside the boat making sure the mast’s electrical cable gets threaded
freely through the hole in the bearing post.

Use the crane, not few stout guys, you have too much to lose. The
center of gravity is around 16 feet from the bottom of the mast. Have
the crane attach just over 16 feet and see how your mast behaves as it
is raised.
