Measurements in Manual

Posted by Bill Jones (mail@…>)

I need to replace my forestay and several lines in the running
rigging on my 1987 freedom 30. How accurate are the measurements
listed in the manual? Do I need to pull the stay and lines off of
the boat and match them or can I get new ones based on the manual.
Given I am a ways from my boat it would be nice to just make one
trip. Has anyone deviated from the recommended lines in the book as
far as size or type of line? If so did you find something that
worked well?

Also did anyone have an opinion on the loose foot vs wedge foot
mainsail? I have ordered a new set of sails and had to make a
decision. I went with the loosefoot as it seems it will be easier
to work with. It is probably not too late to change my mind though
if someone has some good info.

Thanks for all your help. As a new Freedom owner I have tons of
questions as I am figuring the boat out. The is a great resource.

I have used the running rigging lengths in the manual for replacement
halyards with no waste or problem on our 1986 F30. I also changed
our main halyard to 3/8" NER T-900 to reduce stretch in the halyard.
I was very happy with this change interms of the stretch along with
the small reduction in weight. I did not find the smaller line to be
a problem in handling, although any smaller line tends to be alittle
harder on your hands. I am still able to easily lift my main all the
way to the point of tensioning without the winch.
