name poll

Posted by lance_ryley (lance_ryley@…>)

In the interest of saving Al some tabulations, I created an “owner’s
association name” poll with the top 4 choices and an “other.” I’ll
keep the poll open for about a week and post the results here.

If you’ve already submitted your choice, please take a moment to vote
again.

Thanks,

Lance

Thanks, Lance. I’m one of those that voted “other.”
Have
never been around at initiation day for this type of
group,
nor belonged to any other. So the following reflects
the benefit or absence of that kind of experience
thereto.

I find all of it a bit wordy.
How about just Freedom Yacht Fans ?

People sometimes cruise organizations pre-purchase, or
enjoy remaining in the organization post-sale. If they
have
the $40 and want to tender it and come out and meet us
-before or after owning one of these magnificent
horses - why not ? Might even be a company feature for
TPI to put up as a
link on the main site. What with them hoping to get
some
commissioned new orders sometime for more Freedoms…

I was, and am still, a long-time member of the very
friendly
and resourceful Cal-list. We’ve had several rendevous.
I’ve yet to own any Cal, but am an admirer. They call
themselves
“the Cal-list”, or “Cal-listees.” Those of us that are
on line with them as non-owners or prior owners are
sometimes fondly
labeled “lurkers.” We even on-line, by vote yet,
developed a
club burgee. Rather cool. It’s the Cal emblem with an
@ sign
inside. I keep mine onboard Sparrow, for when Cal-list
friends visit.

It’s all good, know what I mean? If I’d had to wait
to own a
Freedom in order to be in the club, it would have been
a real dry decade…

Just my .02, but I like anybody who likes our great
boats.
Hence Freedom Yacht Fans, or any other similar…

Respectfully,
Jacqui Mac Sparrow

Good post, Jacqui, and point well taken. I belong to one yacht club -
The Mystic River Mudhead Sailing Association (www.mudhead.org). They
are a great bunch of sailors, there’s no waiting list, and we have a
pretty funny burgee of a guy standing on his head in the mystic river
mud. They organize a wednesday night series, a fundraising regatta,
and of course some pretty fantastic parties. It’s pretty much all-
inclusive, and gives a great sense of community.

Whatever we end up doing with our Freedoms, it should not be
exclusionary, and certainly must reflect the Corinthian spirit that
brings us all to the water.

I confess that I didn’t have a clue as to what Lance meant by “Corinthian spirit”, so I checked on-line dictionaries. I think I know which definition he had in mind:

Co·rin·thi·an ( P ) Pronunciation Key (k-rnth-n)adj.

Of or relating to ancient Corinth or its people or culture. Architecture. Of or relating to the Corinthian order. Elegantly or elaborately ornate. Given to licentious and profligate luxury.
n.

A native or inhabitant of Corinth. A luxury-loving person; a bon vivant. A wealthy amateur sportsman, especially an amateur yachtsman. Corinthians (used with a sing. verb) Abbr. Co or Cor. See table at Bible.

I see two issues, name and access.

Freedom Owners Association (FOA) sounds good to me.

I personally would prefer anything that does not include Corinthian or Yacht though that would not preclude my participation.

Though a list of boat names and models would be interesting, members manes and contact info should be held tightly.

If there is value, people will join and pay a reasonable cost. Access should be open to all, but participation would be limited to members.

My $.02 worth.
