new group..

Not for nothing, and at the palpable risk of opening some old wounds,
there is another Freedom group, called “Freedom Owners Group.” It
already has multiple moderators, space in photos and in files, and
essentially the core group from here has already joined.

While its original intent was to provide a forum for a non-virtual
Owners’ Group in the spirit of the Nonsuch association, it is
currently underutilized for that purpose and I am more than willing to
open it up to the kind of useful and lively discussions we have in ‘here.’

While I agree that the spam issue right now is mostly a nuisance, the
other group is available.

Kind regards,
Lance

I agree it could be used. I guess the
problem is so many people are subscribed to this group and might be unlikely to
move over.
We could, however, at least use it for
posting photos since that’s not possible anymore on this group.

The other group was originally set up just
for folks to discuss setup of a formal association. We originally did that on
this group but those not interested complained there was too much non-technical
stuff so this was the solution. Formation of the formal association has gone
slowly so its not heavily used right now. It wasn’t intended to replace
this group in any event.

“Moderation” in the Yahoo meaning simply means that you can post a
message without a moderator approving the content.

However, FOG is set up to require approval of new members (unlike
fy2003 which is set on automatic approval), so if spammers join
under false pretenses, they can - and will - be kicked out of the
group. Also, the setting is to allow only members to post, view
files, databases, etc. so getting spam from non-members is unlikely.

I just did a search for that group and it didn’t come up. I’d be
curious to check it out. Does anyone have a link?
I remember some efforts to put together a class association around
the time we bought Entropy. We actually had a Freedom get-together at
Angel Island in SF Bay. We had just brought our boat up from San
Diego and it was our first time going anywhere in the Bay. The
mooring field was crowded and we had to get creative to get moored. I
managed to snag a mooring line with the prop. Luckily someone was out
in a dinghy so we got lines secured and enjoyed an evening in the
company of other Freedom owners. In the morning I got to do a series
of free dives in some very chilly water. I had a wetsuit on but it
was still cold. Someone who was both kind and wise heated up some
water on the stove that we poured into the wetsuit after I got done.
I’ll never forget that.
