new instruments

I am planning to install new electronics (depth, wind, speed,
chartplotter) on my F-32. There is already an autopilot at the
helm. I would like to have all these at the helm and have been
considering navpods with a new guard. Has anyone tried this setup?
Is this overwhelming for the cockpit? Any other configurations?

I agree that a chartplotter should be readily visible from the helm
and I like having it within easy arm’s reach for changes in view
etc. However, for the other instruments I may be in the minority,
but I like them better on the cabin top so I may see them from my
usual sailing position on either side of the helm. I rarely am
behind the wheel except when motoring or sailing downwind. I removed
instruments from side pods on my F36 because I could never see them.
The chartplotter remains on a swivelling mount that can be seen from
behind or either side of the wheel (even ahead if someone else is
steering and I want to keep an eye on it).
My suggestion is mock up cardboard instrument faces and see what you
think in your usual sailing position. I know people like instrument
pods at the wheel and if that suits you…
