I finalized the purchase of the F21 and motored eighty miles to
Melbourne Florida, it was blowing hard on the nose and I couldn’t
take a week off to tack up the intracoastal, I used a 15 hp yamaha
which is way too big for the F21. Of course as soon as I got up
here, the winds slacked off so tacking became more difficult because
I don’t have a genoa, but she seemed to do fine in light winds, just
a little slow, I was just sailing her to see how she handles, going
to order a genoa soon, has anyone purchased a sail from sailnet?
I know it sounds funny, but I didn’t know if she had shoal draft or
not, the boat was advertised to be shoal, but there was a sump in
the bilge and supposedly there wasn’t supposed to be a sump in the
shoal model, I dived overboard and sure enough she is shoal, it’ll
be a plus in the Indian River plus I’ll be able to trailer her. Due
to financial conditions right now, I don’t want to dock her, so I’ve
been anchoring her and swimming out to her to sail her to the docks
at the boat ramp, I just bought some plywood and am building a
bolger tortoise to dinghy out to her. My three year old daughter
loves her and wants me to teach her how to sail, I think I’ll start
her on the tortoise first.

My F-21 is a fin keel. I bought the boat last spring and it has been nothing but a pleasure. I sail it on a lake in Indiana, about 50 miles away from where I live. The boat has a Shoreland’r trailer, which I recommend. I’m thinking of taking it down to Lake Kerr in North Carolina, close to where I’ve been working, but getting things ready for that trip takes time. Regarding your questions about the genoa, I have a staysail. There is lots of info about self-furling genoas/jibs on the freedom website. I like the staysail because I can manage it well from the cockpit–actually, there’s not management because it’s self-tacking. You do have to unhook the halyard to the staysail if you want to use the spinnaker, or rig another separate halyard from the mast.
