Preventer

I have a Freedom 30 and am considering rigging a preventer. Does
anyone have suggestions? I’d like to keep the deck reasonably clear
and am also not sure if the toe rail is strong enough to attach a
block for this purpose.

Should I just run a stout line from the end of the boom to the cleat
on the bow? Seems like that could make controlled jibing awkward –
with someone running forward to uncleat the line.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

I run a line from the aft mainsheet boom bail to a Harken snatchblock
attached to the lee toe rail forward and then back to the lee aft
cleat.

Throw the turn off the cleat, jibe, go forward and reset the gear to
the new leeward side. I thought about a second line and block to
avoid the necessity of going forward, but haven’t needed it yet.

A " Walder Boom Brake " works very best. Do not use a STOUT line , Use a stretchy 3 srand nylon line to the bow. The idea is to slow down the jibe, I also have had success with a " Rubber Snubber ".
