Bill,
I got an old mast, from a Capri 14.2 I think, that I use as a portable
raising pole/mast, it’s about 191/2ft long.
I have shrouds cut and set to length that I attach, with shackles, to the
forward base eyelet at each stanchion in-line with the front of the
deckhouse. I then have a short fore stay that I attach a line to and run
that through the eyelet at the forward base of the bow pulpit. I run that
line back through the fair lead on the deck, the halyard clutch, and to one
of the winches. I set the base of this raising mast on a thick piece of
rubber on the deck just in front of the mast hole and then tighten the
whole thing up with the winch and clutch it off. I then have a block with
a raising line running back down from the top of this set mast (all rigged
up before I set it). One end of this raising line goes through one of the
halyard turning blocks, through the fair lead, halyard clutch, and back to
the other winch. I tie a separate line with a loose loop around the
boat’s mast that I then attach the other end of the raising line to this
loop. I then take the other end of the looped line and tie it off on the
goose neck fitting on the boat’s mast so the loop doesn’t just slide up the
mast, and is the right place to be at or about the boat’s masts center of
gravity. I then just winch the mast up and into the hole, ease it down the
hole and into place.
Takes a little time to do but it works great, is fairly simple, and is
light weight.

Bill,
You may have one of the self-hoisting mechanism described on the Freedom site. I have it somewhere, but not at my fingertips. I raise my mast with the help of a hoist and a couple of friends. It’s not so heavy that two guys can manage it, although I’ve never tried that. If someone else doesn’t chime in and tell you where the three pole hoist is described, I’ll look it up and send it your way.

Mast raising.
I have found that pulling alongside another sailboat and using, preferably, the buddy boat’s spinnaker halyard raising a mast is easy. Not much healing. Attach halyard to mast as you would using a crane.

It’s amcclung@… if it’s something which lacks general interest to the group. I’m still looking for the particular message which relates to the three-pole lift. You’re lucky you have that. You won’t need a hoist.

Regarding your three long poles, maybe what I posted a few years ago

birch boards would not be strong enough. Anyway her is the posting.

• Secure Forward and Aft Ties to hold the “A” upright. You
may want to put rubber under legs and/or angle leg bottom.
