I have replaced my diesel with an electric
motor on my 1984 F32. I now
want to install a 15.5" Kiwi 3 blade composite prop if it will fit. The
Kiwi web site says only 1 inch of clearance is necessary.
Unfortunately my boat currently sits in rather frigid water, precluding
my taking a measurement. Does anyone know the shaft to hull measurement
for the F32 or can you tell me the biggest prop you have installed?
I installed an Etek (6 hp - peak 15hp) with 2 - 48v 100amp banks of
AGM batteries. I experienced some “growing pains” since I built it
myself. My dinky, 2 blade folding prop doesn’t work well wiyh the
electric setup, but in all fairness it wasn’t suitable with the
diesel either.

So how fast will it move your boat and for how long?
there’s a guy on the Columbia YOA who has electric propulsion for his Columbia
36. Says it will mov his boat at arouind 3-4 knots for a couple hours. He
recharges his batteries with a small Honda generator.
That’s o.k. if you don’t have a long distance to get to a sailing area. For the
past 8 years my boat was at the upper end of the Anclote River in Tarpon
Springs, FL. It’s a beaytiful river, but I had to motor 6 miles thorugh a
nanrrow, twisty channel to get to water open enough to sail. If we were lucky
on the return trip (about 25% of the time), the wind would be blowing in the
right direction so we coulkd sail most of the way back up the river. Plus, the
river and tidal currents are sometimes .75- 1.7 knots, usually against us
whichever way we were going.
So in our case, electric power at this state of the art wouldn’t cut it.
