Photos of the UK F-21 cockpit showed at least four line hangers on
each side of the companionway to hang halyards, traveler lines and
spinnaker lines. They were Ronstan Line Hangers with shock cords
(see bottom of 2004 West Marine Catalog page 728) and were mounted
vertically on the curved comming.
On my F-21 I have mounted 5 Beneteau Buttons P/S (mounted
horizontally on top of the coming) on each side of the companionway
to hang halyards, traveler lines and spinnaker lines
This helps in keeping an organized cockpit underway or at rest.
Those clips and shockcord attach to the outside bulkhead. At one
time they were shown on the UK page for Freedom 21’s but I don’t
believe that it is active any longer. If the clips were inside
the
cabin there would be a problem with the lines going through the
companionway plus there would be no reason to mount them there.
I also mounted a track P & S for some Harken blocks for the sheets
for the jib. They also had cam cleats on them which made it quite
handy for trimming.
May I ask exactly where you attached the shock cord and plastic
hooks to hold the lines? Are they inside the cabin or inside the
cockpit? It sounds like a good idea, but lots of the boats around
me
have nylon bags (the J-24s) on either side of the passageway. Most
of
these bags look custom made–at least I can’t find any
commercially.
They have stainless steel snaps which attach the bags to the boat,
plus shock cords to draw the opening tight.

The scupper check valve does not go inside the hole. They are
mounted on the stern over the 2 openings. It is best to do it
out of
the water if possible. I installed them in the water and
dropped
one
of the rubber valves but Atwood sent me another. You have to
drill
several holes for the screws so you don’t want to use a corded
drill
when you are wet. They really do the job.
I also copied a tip from the English F-21’s by attaching most
of
the
loose lines to the bulkhead using a shock cord and a plastic
hook.
These can be found at most marine chandleries. Cleans up the
cockpit.
Hi Bob, and thank you for the scupper tip. Did you have to
make
any
adaptations, or did they just fit into the drain holes?
(with
some
sealer?). Thank you again for this tip, and any other F 21
tips
and
advice you can give to us. Charlie on Mobile Bay, AL

Beneteau Sailboat Company installs their own line hangers on their
boats. They are 1/3 of a metal sphere with a slot in back to hook a
line which goes around the line you want to hang. Even though it is
a simple design - not easy to describe. Find a Beneteau Dealer to
see one.
Thank you for the reply. Could you tell me what a Beneteau Button

Thanks again. There’s a Beneteau on the lake where I sail. I’ll take a look at his boat this week. Thanks again.
