Re: Freedoms, freedoms, trust funds, and those "wealthy" babes

Posted by Jacqui MacConnell (jacimacc@…>)

Gee gosh darn I am so glad to read all this below.
Thank you.
Let me do some filling in about babes with bucks or
boats.
A cautionary tale.

After 14.5 years of two lawsuits, which ran
concurrently, and
both of which I “won”, a very small trust fund and a
smaller
still cash award (post IRS, docs, expert witnesses,
transcripts,
attorneys, and dealer prep and licensing fees) arrived
here.
About three years ago.

Friends, and particularly the loyal legal staff, kept
writing
to send their hearty congratulations. I kept looking
at the
bank balance and saying, " But I’m just not feeling
it. This
is it? This is what I’ve traded for my brilliant
career ?"

Gloom, not exuberance.

A gal pal needed a lift to Seattle. While she was
elsewhere,
I wandered the docks at Shilshole. Hmm. A boat. No,
wait,
a Freedom!

At home, the handlers told me I was nutz. I should
take
that award and buy a nice little CD or two. And they
didn’t
mean more music.

There, there little woman. One attorney actually told
me,
“there are lots of boats out there. You should wait.”

This feeling will pass?

In one of the better decisions of my life, I ignored
all the
paid professional advisors. And was lucky enough to
also
have the patronage of the boat seller, Brian Guptil,
while
the transaction got snarly. Do they all?

I used to have a sort of trust fund. A monthly stipend
that
the first law suit will always send. Tax free, even.
Oh Joy!

Now, I have a boat instead. And it has me. I am
looking for
work. Have yacht, will consider return to workforce?
The
“trust fund” still pays. But not enough, not enough.
Sigh.

Two days ago Sparrow was out on Bellingham Bay doing
7.5 knots. The weather was warm, 51 degrees. The wind
was about 25 knots. Crew thought that spelled perfect
conditions. There wasn’t another boat out there.
Amazing.
First day of Spring, go for it.

Root for me out there, all you Freedom Fans. We are
going
behind about a grand a month, but we are not yet going
down.

And mind that if you are seeking a boat by way of a
handy
marriage to someone who has an appparent trust fund or
an interest in sailing, that may not be sufficient to
a balanced
equation, either.

We got our boats, or we got our bucks?

I’ll take the smiles. Great to hear in your recent
e-mails
that I’m not the only one who finds her freedoms
spendy,
and her Freedom indispensable. All good cheers to you!
Thank you for your encouraging candor.

All I can say is “Ditto.” Thanks for sharing. Good luck! I’m gonna
call you one of these days and come up to Bellingham to crew for you.

See ya,

Frank
