i have a F 21 in high winds it does great I would pick it anyday over catalina or tanzer.
Very stable very dry boat.
12 miles offshore no problem.
I have the fixed keel.
all the info you need

40 plus winds reefed, also reefing on this boat coul dnot be easier all done from the cockpit

Can someone point me to an online source of info for this boat or
offer their own
impressions from experience? I am in the market for a boat this size
but had thought
of a traditional sloop. Does it come in more than one keel
configuration? I’m more
interested in a fixed keel. How does the F-21 compare to something
like a Tanzer 22
or Catalina 22 for sailing characteristics: seaworthiness, stability
in +20 knots, how
dry is it, how well does it point, etc. Is the boat quirky? Can I
take it 12 miles offshore
to Block Island safely? Any thoughts appreciated! Apologies if this is hard to
read.
Can’t seem to get the post to look like a normal paragraph.

I’ve done this thing too when I had the F-21. I wish I had such a great photo!
The coasties
came alongside at one point to see if was in trouble, or just crazy. When they
saw the big
smile and a wave from me, they kept on going. The GPS showed 18 knots! The
waves
coming from the stern looked like they would swamp the boat, but they just made
it go
faster.

You’ve probably looked at the dwyergreen.com site already. I can relay my experience with this design.
My F21 finkeel is my 6th sailboat, it is by far the best behaved boat I’ve had, including my F25 due to having to trailer sail most of the time (living in New Mexico).
I have mostly raced her against Catalina 22’s & 25’s, also Hunter 23’s & 26’s and consistently blow them off the water. Catalina 22’s don’t have a chance…had one of those too…
The trick is not to worry about pointing with them, although the rig points pretty well with the small or large staysail (I have both). Go for clear air if your behind and just outrun them with boatspeed…she can tack so fast, a couple extra tacks are no big deal. Sail it like a dingy.
I trim the jib like any other and also the main, I then let the traveler down to the edge of the companionway. The boat will fall off the wind a few degrees and flatten out to around 8* of heal, then the keel starts doing it’s job lifting the boat to windward.
Any point of sail off the wind and she just goes, especially downwind. We had one race last year where the wind was 30kts with gusts to 35kts, out of the whole fleet, including J24’s, we were the only ones to fly a spinnaker (surfing up over and down the waves at 9.9kts). They didn’t know what hit them…the more wind the better at any point of sail, just reef it up and go some more.
If you have someone to drive and do all the rest she can be driven to her max.
I don’t try to run the spinnaker in big wind when I’m alone…my cheapie autopilot won’t hold the course well enough…that will change when I put on a second jib halyard.
As far as being dry…I took a knockdown last week on the last tack for the start (got the mainsheet wrapped around my leg, OPPS!!). The boat was going sideways and water was flowing over the coaming…I just reached down got the mainsheet undone and dropped it off, the boat just popped right back up and starting moving…all the water just drained right out…no problem. I don’t think my feet even got wet, being that I was sitting in the cockpit on the highside. The high coamings around the cockpit and the rather sharp deckhouse keep things dry…
As far as sailing offshore, I’ll let you know.
We are leaving for a 8 day trip to Catalina Island this Saturday, don’t really expect a lot of wind.
This boat just seems to take it all in stirde, she is so light she just stays on top of the water…and with all the sail controls at your fingertps it’s easy to decrease the power…
