RE: Re: sleeping - Freedom32

Dear Sward,

I have had a freedom 32 for 2 years and also love
sailing in her. However finding a big enough berth for
my wife and I is a problem. We tried the aft berth but
I could not get back in after my mid night visit to
the head. So I would sleep on the quarter berth. My
wife got upset at this.

I bought a 2" cover for the dining area and we
survived for one night. Now we sleep in seperate
cabins. Not good. I am thinking of adding a board in
the maincabin so that the quarter berth and the dining
area become one large berth. Has anyone done this or
is there another way?

I would have to agree there isn’t enough room for 2. For me alone, it’s perfect, however, when I have someone else aboard for overnight or just the day it is a pain in the neck to move around-you have to do it one at a time. I have had the fiddles on the table trimmed down as they were horrible to sit or sleep on-still a problem. I also just had a table made that folds down on the starboard side of the sink for extra counter space for cooking. It folds up to abut the nav table. It is not fully installed as the verdict is still out on how to hold it up. I also made another table for the dining area, out of starboard. I put a table base on it to set onto the pole. It is smaller, so that there is more room and I only wanted something to put my laptop computer on or to eat. It allows for much more space in the saloon. In spite of all the storage on this boat, there still isn’t enough room for all my
stuff!! But most boaters complain of that. I have heard said that something has to come off when something new comes aboard I try, but it’s hard!!
