Gio,
You could try to find the solution they use on the open 60 racers.
Many of these have both boom and boomvang attached to the deck just
aft of the mast. They use a table-like thing to support the boom and
vang. These thin masts cannot handle the loads of the boom.

Not to keen on the mastcolor concept.
You have no idea how much force is applied to the mast.
If to loose the collar tends to creep up and eventually starts
eating
into the carbon, if to tight god knows what happens to the carbon.
I am considering replacing the Aluminium mast rings with a new SS
contraption and somehow have an attachement for the vang to the SS
ring. Not sure what this does to the deck construction. Must
remember
that the loads applied under sail can be very high.
If anybody has done something similar then please share details
with us.
Thanks,
Gio

I paid Garhauer $253 for a rigid vang for a 30, plus $150 for the
collar, plus about $10 for shipping. His workmanship is not to be
believed.

And what was the price, if you don’t mind my asking?

I have 2,from Garhauer. Couldnt be without them. Lazyjacks now
can be
led
fwd,so battens dont hang up when making sail. Quality is
VVG,and price
is
outstanding. Price includes custom mast band for mounting.

Has anybody used a rigid vang on the F-33 (standard booms)?
What are
they pros & cons? Any challenges? What sources did you use for
the
vang & hardware?
Thanks.

I havea F-38 (1990) I made a mistake in deleting the discussion on hard vangs. I took mine off last week: too many cracks. Have some one repairing/replacing it. Interested in further discussion.mike_c_f35ck <mike_c_f35ck@…> wrote:
