Congrats Doug!
My boat was set up and raced by the previous owner (serious racer and probably
best sailor skill-wise at our club) and I crewed for him. He removed all the
unnecessary deck hardware and stanchions, and "gun-mount spi pole and we flew
spi either poleless or tacked to the bow ala asymmetric. We also found upwind
boat gave away to the J’s but downwind we could often catch them, most
competitive in light air and really heavy vs J’s. Definitely sailed with the
overlapping headsail except in the really heavy stuff then went with the small
jib.
On another topic- Does anyone have any recommendations for a new sailcover?
Ideally I would like one that incorporates a cover of the cabin top to cover all
my winches/blocks/lines/etc.??
If there is no such thing then I would be interested to see how many other
owners would be interested in such a cover and I will endeavor to get one
designed and made.

We sailed the race Saturday, it was a 10 mile race. My boat
came in
fith place but with the handicap we were fourth. I got beat
out by an
E22, and 2 J24’s. The race was a lot of fun, it was so
much fun for my
wife that she can’t wait to enter the next race. I
still don’t
understand how the handy cap is equated, is it 240 seconds
for each
NM? and then is it subtracted from your over all time in
seconds?
Could someone please clarify.
10 NM race
2h 53m = 10380
240s * 10 nm = 2400
10380-2400=7980
Is that the correct way to figure out your corrected time?

What are the dimentions of the over laping head sail for the freedom. I currently only have a Jib and would be interested in getting a larger head sail.
I would be interested in a cover. My current cover is getting warn and the 10 x 8 tarp that covers the cocpit up to the traveler just doesn’t last long in the New Mexoico desert.
