Replacing engine control - F32

Posted by john reed (john-reed@…>)

Folks,

The engine control on our F32 is showing signs of wear. The transition from
forward to reverse or vice versa requires a stop at neutral and the clutch
button held in. Given the criticality of this function, I’ve decided to
replace the whole control with a new one. I’ve looked at Teleflex Morse and
Kobelt and they both have offerings that appear to be able to handle the
job. Does anyone have experience in this area?

We changed to dual controls on the steering pedestal. Changing
to the pedestal instead of foot level is really nice. The dual
was felt to be more reliable than the mechanically complex
single lever shift-throttle control. I do miss the easy back
and fill of the single lever. The old corroded long control cables
were part of the problem and they were also replaced. All this work
added up to something too much for me and the yard did the work.
Now at the critical reverse to ease into the dock all works
smoothly.

My Hoyt 32 had, some time prior to my buying it, the engine control changed to a single lever control on a separate pedestal fastened to the starboard side of the steering pedestal. The control itself is a Morse, as well may be the pedestal it’s mounted on, I’d have to double check. It works very well, with all the convenience of the single lever action, and the benefit of being at the proper height. If you’re interested, I’ll drop you a dig-pic of the installation.

Paul,
I would also be interested in seeing a picture of the installation. I don’t have the clutch, but have to be at idle speed - go to neutral- then shift. It is a bit hectic when making quick menuvers.

Thanks,

Sward
