Hi,
Your address keeps returning the following e-mail as not being a valid
address. So I post my response here in hopes that you will get the
message…
In the past, I have had numerous chips on the bow, due to a Bruce
anchor that I’ve used. The new anchor I use is even more prone
(generic Delta). The problem with the chipping is not in anchoring but
in the anchors riding on the bow roller while sailing (particularly to
windward). I think I’ve got the problem licked by using a chain
grabber and securing it very tightly to the bow cleat. The point of
the plow comes within an inch of the bow but it can’t ding it so long
as the strain is on the chain. In the past, I’ve thought of having
someone fabricate a stainless steel guard for the bow. The only other
answer that makes sense is to install a new bow roller whose overhang
is greater. I looked at one that provided an extra 2 inches of
clearance but decided that a $7 chain grabber was $135 cheaper.
However, I might just go that way in the future. Changing the bow
roller looks quite simple, just a couple of bolts that are fairly easy
to get to from the chain locker.
Fair Winds,
Ed
