riding sail

I made a SAILRITE kit riding sail for my 36. So far, I haven’t had
much luck with it. I have tried a number of different hoists, but
have not had any success. With out a back stay, I am only able to
tack it to the aft end of the boom. An option was to put an eye on
the centerline of the taff rail and attach the tack there, but there
are cockpit inteference issues with that.

A trick that I have had some success with is to run a line from the
stern cleat to the anchor line at the bow. Let out some more anchor
rode and tighten the brest line. This will cock the boat at an angle
to the wind. Also move the boom to the lee side of the boat.

I have also tied a kellet to the anchor rode, again, with limited
success.

I have an F25 that would sail around on the mooring. I hung the boat off the stern to eliminate motion. The boat remained stable but windage increased greatly with the transom pointed to weather.
