As the new owner of a 1984 Freedom 21, I’m getting
ready to launch the boat for the first time in about ten
days.
I have the rigging diagrams but I still have a measure of
concern about setting up the mast and the running
rigging. The boat had been out of the water for some time
when I bought it, and I’m not sure if all the pieces are in
place.
The boat will be moored in Mattapoisett.
Is there a 21 owner in Southeastern Massachusetts or
Rhode Island who would take the time to show me
his/her boat and educate me for an hour or so on
properly setting it up?
I would be most appreciative.

Walter,
I just set up my '85 F-21 a couple of months ago. If you want, I'll take my digital camera over to the boat this week and take some pix for you.

That would be great - I would really appreciate it.
Thanks - I’ll look forward to the pictures.

Arthur,
Do you have any part of the boat rigged? I take it you have not stepped the mast? That part is pretty simple. You'll need a pulley and a guy on the ground to pull the rope. Drop the bottom part of the mast through the hole in the deck and put the bolt through in the bottom. There's a collar that goes around the mast between the hole it goes into on the deck. The collar keeps water out and keeps the mast from banging around on the sides of the hole. There's also a sleeve that comes down and covers the hole and the mast. Some people also use a duck-tape like tape too.
There are 21 lines (5 for the spinnaker alone) coming into the cockpit. I'm rigging my spinnaker this weekend. I've had it rigged and running, but not correctly.
