I have posted some pictures under the “goes like stink -Mod” heading.
An Englisman posted some info on the G10 rigging for the cat ketches
and I tried the concept on my F21.
It works very well in light air to space the sail away from the mast,
undoubtedly because the air flow better around the mast before it is
seperated by the sail. When tacking in light air it is mush easier to
find the “groove” again and oveall light air efficiency seems better.
I have used it since mid summer but I have not sailed enough i high
winds to judge it well. At this poing I don’t think it is an
improvement in high winds.
I ended the season with some fixed spacers (line) from the sail to
the slide, the sail it easier to manage that way but I think the flow
is better with the winding serpentine cord from the leech around the
mast because it can twist off further to the lee of the mast that
way.
I sailed a new/old replica workboat i Denmark last summer that used
the oldfashioned rings on the mast, I think those might be a
forbotten advantage that should be looked into. That boat did quite
well to windward with simple sail-control lines and mediocre set sail.
