Fellow Freedom 38 Sailors (and all others with a good idea):
I love the way my F 38 sails on the beam and have been having a lot of fun with the spinnaker this spring going down wind. Just lately, however, as I look up at that lovely carbon fiber mast, carrying that great big main sail I have begun to ask myself what about carrying more headsail from the mast head and improving performance? Mark Edwards tells me a number of F 38’s have been rigged for mast head spinnakers in California with success. My questions for anyone with any experience in changing the rigging are:
· Has anyone successfully rigged a larger headsail?
· If so, what was done to the mast head and bow to carry it?
· And what sailing characteristics followed?
I may do some experimenting anyway, if no one has any input, but I sure hate to try to re-invent the wheel.
Thanks,John Moran

You’d probably want to add runnning backstays if you plan to carry a
masthead kite.
