SAIL PLAN "CLASSIC" F35 G10 STYLE

Posted by gjschouten (schouten@…>)

Dear all,
On popular request I have finally written a technical description of
the “G10” rig as used on “classic” F35 Samiel.
Unfortunately there is not enough space left at this BB for an upload.
I have therefore uploaded the Power Point file on the BB for the
Freedom-44 group also here on Yahoo.
You can contact me direct with questions on gio.schouten@…
Thanks,
Gio Schouten

Hi Gio,

I managed to download the file - Thankyou, the rig really makes a
lot of sense and the pictures look very good.

One question I had was about the way the the wishbone boom is hung.
It looks as if you have used two fixed height hanger wires to keep
the wishbone at the correct height. Is this correct?

Some people have added a choker arrangment at the mast end of the
boom, like on Wylie cats or tantons - this replaces the outhaul from
the boom end. I guess this is another alternative but needs an
additional fitting for the choker blocks.

Could you add some details on how you have hung the booms on your
rig?

best wishes,

Philip

Hi,

To find the file you can go to the Yahoo Home (click on Grooups Home
in the top right of this screen). If you then search for Freedom 44
you can jpinmg the Freedom 44 group. The file is in the file menu
and can be downloaded.

I had been planning to add a track, but the plan from Gio is a very
good alternative. It would save the cost and problem of adding track
to the CF masts and there would be no problem swinging the boom
forward of 90 degrees. The onjly question I had was how to rig the
wishbones. I think there are three options:
(1)Keep the current arrangment with the cloth boom strop - but this
would be slightly messy getting the sail up and down with the R10
rig.
(2)Use two fixed hanger wires
(3) Use two fixed hanger wires plus choker system like on Tanton,
Wylie and Nonsuch.

I am considering (3). The choker replaces the outhaul and gives a
lot of control in flattening/deepening the sail.

Philip

Alan,
I had the same problem but now I succeeded. You just have to wait for an hour or
two and try
again cause Yahoo’s group management seems to allow only a limited amount of
mega bytes
of traffic for a given time.

Hope this helps!
Peter

P.S. Seems that everybody wants to get Gio’s rig details at once. Thanks for the
effort, Gio!

I also had the “not authorised” message, but when I tried again
later it worked!!.

I will mail you the file direct.

Having thought more about the wishbone, I am now less sure how to
rig this so that the boom strop/hangers do not intefere with the
soft ropes attaching the luff to the mast?

Philip

I’d also be interested in finding out what the sail area is for each
sail?
Thanks
