Unbelievable! … Despite best efforts, so many postings and careful
attention I managed to make my contribution to the collection of
camber spar parts at the bottom of Padanaram Harbor…
fortunately just the nut. I will make sure I have several exact fit
spares from now on and have threaded a small tether through the hole
in the stainless “strap”. Any advice from someone that has already
done this as to what to tie that off to, that will not interfere with
operation of, and raising/lowering the jib?

Just tie the lanyard, loosely, to the stay. It will ride up and down with
the sail.

Well, you don’t need the “tether” except when taking the spar off, so just leave the piece of small stuff attached, and loop it around the stay when necessary. But do it correctly! I carefully tied it off and then watched it ker-plonk into Marion harbor.
