Spin hoist on F25 - Wing Mast

Posted by richmcn (richmcn@…>)

Hello!

Mauri Pro lists it as 28’ 3"

Somehere I read that the round carbon fiber spar is a foot higher

What would be the correct spin hoist for a wing mast?

Also, how high of an apparent wind speed can you deep reach with the
chute and the runners set on the mast and not take down the spar?

Thanks!
Rich

Rich,

Take it from someone in the sail business. Use a tape measure.

The spinnaker halyard exits at the masthead on my 1982 25’ with wing
mast. The windward runner is required to be set hard when the
apparent wind is above 20 knots apparent, according to the paperwork
that came with the boat. If you feel the mast is"aging" set the
runners at 15 knots (wind force is proportional to the square of its speed).
I personally think that you must be a bit daring to put the spinnaker
up in 20 knots apparent, the boat will easily do 7.5 knots on reaches
with the main alone under these conditions (remember to set the vang
hard under such conditions to minimize rolling when broad
reaching). Herm

“Runner” is a running backstay, that is a non-permanent backstay.
Typically there are two, one of which (windward one) is used while
the other is kept away from interfering with the mainsail off the wind. Herm

Herm and Dave and the supporting cast,

Thanks for the input, particularly with regard to the wind
range/runners.

I was looking at the outside of an F25 for sale.

I will put a tape measure to it.

I’d like to bring my old assym with me to the new boat.

If it fits.

Rich,

I didn’t realize your question was about a boat that wasn’t yours
yet. You’ve got some flexibility with spinnakers. It’s not like a
working sail where some measurements are make or break. If the luff
length for the new boat is a little shorter than your current boat
you’ll be OK. You can even go a bit in the other direction although
a luff that’s too long won’t work too well. Downwind you can get
away with an oversize luff easier than you can on a close spin reach.
