Has anyone found any good solutions for mounting an SSB antenna on a
Freedom 30? How bad does a 23 foot whip antenna look off of the
stern? The boat had been rigged with an antenna running from the
bow pulpit to the mast head when it was sailed to the Caribbean. I
removed it when I bought it because I believe it was interfering
with the ability of the mast to flex correctly. I could always just
go with one I hoist at anchor but I was hoping for a more permenant
solution. Thanks.
I have a SSB antenna that is attached to the top of the mast but
rather than leading down to the pulpit I have it attached to the toe
rail just to starboard of the mast. Since the mast flexes, I have
the antenna joined to a short loop of bungee cord that flexes with
the mast. I’ve found it very satisfactory for 3 years and the
reception and transmission are just fine and it’s always available
for use.
