Hi folks
We are thinking of relocating our water tank. Has any one done it?
The goals are a) to correct a slight list to starboard (water tank
and batteries both on that side, and holding tank on port side no
longer in service due to Airhead composting toilet) and b) improve
storage by relocating tank to under port settee where access is
usually compromised by the table and warm bodies. Starboard sette
area which is very easy to get at would then become food storage
central.
I am guessing it would mean getting a tank fabricated? Is that very
difficult and costly. The basic plumbing does not phase me.
While the slight list is part of the reason, the storage situation
is driving me nuts! Are people fitting out the settees with hinged
lids, or drawers or something. I have all sorts of dishpans etc
subdiving the space under the settee but access remains horrible.
PS the composting toilet works great; the boat smells so much better!
For what its worth I replace the holding tank on my F-33 with a larger one. Its under the port settee. I first got a quote from a custom shop in CT and it was around $300 for a 22 gallon odd shaped tank. I ended up finding one from Ronco for about $150 that was a standard size for them and they would make it to the sealand 3/8 inch heavey spec. I use liquid expandable hard foam to fully support it underneath where the hull curves. Other then measuring and remeasuring and remeasuring to make sure it would fit and all hose ports would be accessible and allow enough space for hose bends the hardest thing was only disassembling the berth to get the old one out and the new one in.

I put two doors beneath the port setee and keep three egg crate style
containers in the void. I also put a door under the V-berth and a
fold-down door beneath the table forward of the starboard setee.
