as part of revitalizing my recently purchased f 35, im now looking at renewing log/depth and windset
i came across tacktick, which is interesting as it supplies it’s own energy by solar power and there is no wiring - receives data via a wireless link. obviously this all comes at a price
does anyone have experience with this product?
regards,
Laurens

I considered Tacktick when I installed new instruments last fall. I think a wireless wind instrument is a great idea and saves a lot of wiring trouble, although at considerable extra expense. I’m less sure that a wireless speedo and depth sounder justify the additional cost, especially since these two are not completely wireless. Both transducers are hard wired to a 12 volt unit which then transmits the reading to where ever the display is mounted.

Laurens,
I have no experience with Ticktack instruments but I do have a
solarpower operated ventilator on my coachroof. It also has a
battery, charged by the solar cells, to keep the ventilator running
through the night. I can tell you that in our neighbourhood (Western
Europe) there are many days - even in the summer - without enough
daylight intensity to keep this vent running until the next morning.
Therefore, I would be very cautious to rely on sunshine as a power
supplier for my ships instruments.
