I am presently in the process of removing the original holding tank,
toilet and related plumbing in my F36 and installing a 30 gal tank
and complete new system. Photos and text later for anyone interested.
In the course of removal, It was necessary to remove the holding tank
thruhull and seacock. I was alarmed to discover raw exposed balsa
core when the thruhull was unscrewed. Of course, I will be cutting
back the balsa and sealing the bore with epoxy, but now I am worried
and wondering about all my other thruhulls. Any similar experiences?
I also had exposed balsa at my head overboard thruhull which I just
corrected. Because I had read about that I also removed my two sea
cocks under the port sete only to find solid glass there. My
understanding was that all the thru hulls had exposed core but
either some had been fixed or else it must vary from hole to hole.
Good luck with your project.
