Have any of the F-28/30/32 (or other Freedoms) converted from the

Bruce,
I had a UK-built F35 CK (F33 in the US) with a transom hung rudder. When I
bought the boat in St.Lucia, West Indies, the push rod wheel steering had
excessive play. For this reason and as I wanted to fit a wind vane steering
gear for the Atlantic crossing, I decided to convert to tiller steering in
order to keep things simple.
I laminated a tiller from alternating strips of mahogany and ash and a
friend welded a stainless fitting to connect the tiller to the head of the
rudder stock where it was fixed by a 0.5 in stainless bolt. The tiller could
be pivoted up around the bolt to get it out of the way in the harbour.
Everything worked fully to my exspectations and the wind vane steered the
boat all the way across the Atlantic via the tiller.
Greetings,
Peter
