First, I hope I’m in the right place. I own an '85 Freedom 21 (recent
purchase) and need some screws replaced. The screws hold the traveler
down to the top of the hatch. Actually, they’re through-the-top-to-
some nut-type screws on the celing of the cabin. The screws are flat
head stainless steel 4 3/4" #10-24 machine screws. The boys at Big
Lots give me vacant stares. These screws also fit into what looks
like a Philips head nut on the inside of the cabin. Any help will be
appreciated.

What you are looking for are “Barrel Nuts” and they are available from West
Marine and some well stocked hardware stores. Not cheap at $2.25 each from
West.

Thank you. I'll go to West Marine's web site or give them a call. Thanks again.

You have to find the screws on the Internet I replaced mine.
I will see if I can find the site I bought them from.
Bit if I remember correctly I measured the screw and did a search for machined flat head.

I too just bought a 85 freedom 21 . How many bolts
are
there holding the traveler? I have two. West marine
is your best bet. There are alot of marine supply
people on the net. Have you flown the spinnaker yet.
I’m still trying to figure out the rigging.

Thanks. I’m having trouble finding the barrel screws…the part where the long screw fits into. I live in the Cincinnati area and there’s not a lot of marine (sail) suppliers around. If you find the Internet site where you purchased them, let me know. BTW, are the screws different length? I’ve only removed two loose ones and they are different.

Bill,
When you get the spinneraker up, you'll pass the other boats. The spinnaker is tricky for a novas (like me) to fly alone because it takes some fiddling around with the port and starboard lines, not to mention the spinnaker boom. I always have somebody else on the boat (who knows what they're doing) when I used the spinnaker. I have a diagram for rigging the spinnaker if you need it. Just ask and I'll send it your way.
There are eight screws across the traveler. I'll need 10 because at least two will be sacrificed to the lake.
