Unused Freedom 21

Hi,

I have noticed an unused (unsailed) Freedom 21 tethered at a buoy on
Kerr Lake here in Northern NC. If I get close enough to get the boat’s
numbers, is there someplace I can go online to find out who the owner
is? I have a feeling the boat could be purchased cheaply, like “take it
off my hands.”

Not too sure what the registration guidelines are in NC, but I would imagine
a simple inquiry to your Motor Vehicle Division (as it would be in NJ) would
help.

Who owns rights to the area the where the boat is moored? They would have
to know.

Allen,

The process is really a rather simple one. Get the numbers and then
call (1-800-628-3773) or write to the N.C. Wildlife Resources
Commission, Transaction Management, 1709 Mail Service Center, Raleigh,
NC, 27699-1709 to request a “Vessel Owner Information Request Form.”
This form must be submitted prior to WRC releasing vessel owner
information.

They’ll give you the info and then you contact the owner to see about
his/her intentions with the fine Freedom. If you can’t get ahold of
the owner in a reasonable amount of time and it appears the vessel may
be abandoned, you can to go the WRC website and follow their guidelines
to gain ownership.

I know that as responsible boat owners the members of this group may
shudder at goint down the “abandoned vessel” route, but if the vessel
is abandoned it’s doing no good to anyone and that’s why the AV route
is available.

Art,

The boat is moored at a private marina. They have a financial
interest in the boat because of the mooring fees – especially if
they’ve not been paid for a while. I’ll ask at the marina desk about
who owns the F-21 and see what they say.
