Hello Andre. I just got the 200%, and raced it for the first time
Sunday. This sail has a luff of 25’, leech of 24’ and lp of 12’, so
it is tacked to the top of the spinnaker pole tube. The tacking angle
on Sunday was about 3% under the S2 7.9, two S2 6.?s, and a J24–much
better than I have ever done against them with a smaller jib. Wind
ranged from 8 to 14 knots. I actually passed up these boats downwind
and on the reaching leg, using a small wisker pole–also a first for
me against these boats. I expect to do better when I relocate my
sheeting blocks. I tack the UPS to the top of the spinnaker pole
tube. I also have a genoa with a luff of 27’, and LP of 9, which I
tack to the deck eye. I use the Harken furler for all 3 of these
headsails. Without the furler, the luffs of the sails could be made
longer. The F25 handles the 200% sail much easier in 12+ knots of
wind, than the F21 did with its 200% genoa. Of course, these sails
are “staysails”, and not jibs or genoas. Happy sailing. Charlie

Charlie,
What is your tacking angle with your 200% genoa and where do you
tack the UPS.

Paul Silvernail at mastheadusedsails.com (mastheadsails.com?) has
numerous Freedom used sails and might have a F21 jib. I had both a
blade and a 200% genoa/staysail for my F21. The blade was
practically
useless, except in very high winds, but the genoa greatly increased
speed and pointing in up to 12 knots. I used a harken staysail
furler
for the headsails, and that was a great improvement for ease of
sailing. I now have a Freedom 25, and have the same setup-a 200%
genoa/staysail on a Harken furler. A great cruising staysail for
these boats is a Doyle Sails UPS sail. You can find it on their
website. Probably the best sail for you to buy, if you’re a
cruiser.

Has anyone got a second hand skinny blade jib for the F21
available
for sale? Since Garry Hoyt advises that this is useful in light
winds to improve reaching performance I would love to try one on
my
twin lift keel UK-built F21 “Daydream” S/N 205. If I find it
useful
I can then have a new one made-up?
From drawings I have seen this is a jib that one hanks onto the
top
of the gun-mount tube abd hoists using the spinnaker halyard?
The
drawing suggests a skinny blade jib with a luff of about 17ft 6in
and
a max chord of around 4ft. The drwing also indicated a
camberspar
type arrangement to induce permanent camber in the jib?
If anyone has such a tiny sail lying unused & unloved in their
sailbag pls contact me with comments on sail condition & an
asking
price - to save cluttering-up the message board you can contact
me
directly on wilf.bishop@
Living here in England I would prefer a UK/European source but if
necessary I’ll consider buying one in the USA & shipping it over
(plus the outrageous 17.5% VAT import duty sadly!)
Thanks
