Hi Everyone,

My F-21 is out of the water and on the hard here in my condo complex,
about a quarter mile away. If you can’t sail, then you can mess
around the boat. It doesn’t get too cold here in Kentucky.

The object of my messing around this time will be greasing the wheel
bearings on the trailer. There’s a very good videotape from a guy in
Texas who shows you how, step by step. I’ll be glad to post here it
if somebody tells me how.

Next, I wanted to do maintenance on my wenches. I seem to remember
somebody posting something on this task, but can’t find it. Any ideas?

Lastly, I need to take the sliding overhead entrance to the cabin off
to replace a plastic track that it slides on. Any advice in that
department?

First step is to determine whether you have a high maintenance wench or
a low maintenance wench. Chances are, if the wench is on your sailboat, she is a
low maintenance model.

Sorry. It was too good an opportunity for a punster to turn up.

Change the “e” to “i” and go with that.

I can hardly winch my wench aboard.

When I replaced the ones on “Blue Merle” back in 1996/1997 I was able
to order them directly from Freedom Yachts. However, Freedom Yachts
is no longer in the sailboat business (they have gone over to
the “dark side”) and the parts are no longer available from them.

"Both the Freedoms and the Js (J/22, J/24, etc.)
were built at TPI Composites (formerly Tillotson-Pearson, Inc.), now
Pearson Composites in RI. Common parts were often used.

The current J/22 and J/24 licensed builder in the USA is U.S.

referenced at the J/Boats factory page

They show a J/22 and J/24 parts list with the Hatch Slide Extrusion
(part number 10004) – same part for both the J/22 and J/24.

To service F-21 Barient winches - Push down firmly on the plastic
button in the bottom of the hole for the winch handle. It will
release a spring and should lock in place. If the spring does not
lock open, hold it down as you lift the winch drum up.
