I’m interested in a Freedom 44 that is for sale in Mobile, Alabama. I
live in Europe, so it’s hard to go have a look. Is there anyone living
in or near Mobile that is willing to spend a Sunday afternoon to do a
checkup on this boat? After that, I can decide to send a surveyor.
Just remember, Michel, the 44’s a ketch, not a y’all

Hi Michel. I’ll be happy to check out the 44 for you. We have two 44s
on Mobile Bay. Just email the specifics to me at
clivaday@… Happy holidays, and Merry Christmas to you,
and to all y’all on the Freedom message site. Charlie on Mobile Bay,
Alabama

I’ve seen the boat, but not in detail. It looks like an older boat,
white masts - wrap-around sails/wishbones (?). A good friend of mine
knows the boat, is a broker, and says it’s a bit rough. Maybe there’s
a deal though.
A marine surveyor called me after Katrina, asking if it my boat was
the one with the white masts up against the power lines. He thought
there might have been some mast damage, though they hadn’t moved it
yet at that time. He noted the sticks were expensive, having bought
one earlier, which implied to me it could have been totalled. Dunno
what happened to it after that conversation.
My 44 was a half-mile south of that guy, and I had minor damage (same
surveyor got to me later). We’re in the yard now, and I am not in
Mobile, but there doesn’t seem to be much going on there now (so far
having been able to get a quote from the yard).
There was a 40, I think, over in Fairhope (east side) - a guy that
daysailed a lot. I think there was a lot of destruction over there -
anyone hear of what happened to that boat?
