I have a pedrick design f35 and have concluded that i need some help
with the anchor;
I am considering a maxwell rc-10 windlass;
anycomments or suggestions would be welcome;

Hi Leon,

I have a Pedrick F35 with a Lewmar
anchor windlass. Fairly simple installation on the deck over the front of
the anchor locker. The motor is mounted horizontally under the
deck. I have 35 ft of chain and 200 ft of 5/8 in rode. Electric cable
comes into the anchor locker where the navigation light electric comes in and
solid state switch is also mounted inside the locker. Caution, the motor
is a soft iron housing and can rust if not washed off with fresh water, I also
coat the entire assembly with Bose Shield spray once or twice a year. I
found a place on the net located in Florida and got a very good price, I’ll
let you know if I can find it again.

I have the same boat - hull 64 - and have a Lewmar verticle windlass which works fine with chain. ONly problem I have is the chain piling up in the anchor locker and jamming the windlass and kicking out the circuit breaker. I have the Ocean Concept vertical
windlass. The one thing I wish I had added is the optional capstain.
Not that I have needed it but it seems like a great idea if the anchor is
fouled or you need that pulling power on some other line (second anchor).

Did you decide on a wind vane? I
have always liked the Cape Horn unit due to its simplicity over the swim

. Let me know what you pick. I can’t justify it as 99% of my
sailing is in the Chesapeake and a couple of trips to Nantucket or Florida but
the electronic autopilot is sufficient for that kind of coastal cruising.

, the Lewmar didn’t get a very good report.
I really like the Hydrovane, but I thought they were a bit out of my
budget. I got a Fleming.

Leon,

I just installed a RC 10 on my 36/38 in August. I had Maxwell modify the RC10/10 and replace the chain wheel with the smaller one from the RC10/8. This gave me the heftier motor and 5/16" chain with 5/8" rope (25’ chain and 250’ rope). Maxwell offers a prespliced rope chain combo with a soft 8 ply rope that lets the rope flake into the chain locker without kinking.

Also, have the new wireless remote with a chain counter. I use the remote when letting out rode and the foot switch when hauling it in.

Sure makes life easier.

part of your rust prevention. I’m interested in learning more about
this product. I googled it and was unable to find anything that
matched. Where did you find it?

BOESHIELD spray is in the Defender catalog on page 193. Probably West
Marine too, and most full-inventory marine suppliers.

Hi Paul,

Sorry for the bad data. I saw
it in Practical Sailor some time ago, its full name is Boeshield T-9 http://www.boeshield.com/ . When I
replaced the motor I needed new brass terminal nuts but could not find the
metric size so I used nickel plated steel. This would only work for a
month or two before becoming completely rusted but with the Boeshield it works
for the season and more.
