DIFFERENT MODELS OF 32

Post by Zengirl2 »

Does anyone know the difference between 1982 Freedom 32, 32DK, 32MK2? Also anyone know the luff of jib? Thanks

I have a f32. I don’t know the difference. Love mine. It is a 1984. Wish I could be more helpful

We have hull no 67. A 1985 model. My understanding is that about 100 of these Hoyt-designed 32s were made, all in the 1980s. Ours is 1985. Some had the “sugar scoop” swim platform added, but I’m not aware of any other significant variations.

Other F32 models? Somebody fill us in.

Thanks Alan. I guess by that classification I have a Hoyt F34. Wonder how many 32s have the added sugar scoop...

Sailboat Data website should have the numbers.

APM, sailboat data will have what you may be looking for including luff length. To oversimplify~

if your hull was laid in the mid 80’s you have a Freedom 32 designed by Mr. Hoyt. Within that boat there are two designations; SK for shoal draft keel length and standard length. The ‘other’ models you mentioned are aftermarket IDs added by owners and brokers to differentiate a particular item or feature.

If your hull # is dated from the early 90’s you have a Freedom 30/32 designed by Mr. Mull. 30/32 due to the scoop. Without it you have a F-30 Mull. F-32 Mull with the scoop. Obviously changing the LOA. Don’t place bets on my info but I am reasonably sure about it.

FWIW, my understanding of the F30 F32 is spot on by chip aka 'gulf coast sailor". I have the F32 sans sugar scoop, which is the Hoyt. Best,

Mostly correct, would not quibble, however, I believe the Mull F30/32 started production by at least 1987 (I have a Mull F32 with sail number 85 which was built in 1988 (at least to my knowledge) (also believe it might have been sent back to have the sugar scoop added post production, as some of them were).

The sugar scoop swim platform on my 1985 Hoyt F32 no. 67 was also added at some point post production. I wonder how many others were done.
