Freedom 39 with staysail

Post by briank »

Hi all

I came across this picture while idly browsing the web. The originator said, quote, "the most beautiful photo of a cat ketch under sail I have ever seen is on the Ketch 22 site at Image

Good, eh? Never had my staysail up yet... Makes me think again about my 'plan' to convert my F39 to junk.

Hello Brian,

I own Ketch 22. That picture (by Greg Doppman) can be seen at

http://home.earthlink.net/~svs.1/

I'm working on a new web site, but I'm not there yet. The picture was taken in San Francisco Bay heading East. Ketch 22 is in Georgia now, having left the US for three years, shortly after that picture was taken. I cruised south to Mexico, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and am now on the hard in Georgia getting ready for the next trip. I'll have lots of new pictures when the new site is up and running.

Glad you enjoyed it.

Hi Tom

Great to be in touch with another F39 owner. The reason we haven't used the staysail yet is simply down to the fact that we only bought her back in April and have been working on her ever since the delivery trip from Plymouth UK to Brighton UK. As always too much time and money spent already. We've been sailing junk rigged boats for 30-odd years and one of the reasons we bought the F39 was the fact that the unstayed masts are in the right position for a junk conversion. However the Freedom rig appeals more as the days go by so I think we'll probably postpone the conversion for a season and see how we like the F rig. And we'll get the staysail out, promise.

Let me know when your web site is sorted.
