Hoyt Jib Boom vs. Camber Spar

Post by TomBianca »

Greetings! Our Freedom 45cc came to us with a roller furler jib, convenient but lousy sail shape off wind. Weighing the options!

Are there any Freedom owners that have experience with a Hoyt Jib Boom set up in lieu of the original camber spar? We also have a F32Mull with camber spar and do enjoy the sailing performance.

Recognizing the camber spar sail draft feature and headstay tension on the wind are pluses, the negatives are going forward to pull sail down and capture on boom, and inability to reduce sail area. Our roller furled jib can be reduced effectively as the wind builds.

Acknowledging any solution is not 100%, curious to hear comments/experiences with the Hoyt Jib Boom set up on our free standing rigs.

Thanks and Kind regards, Tom
