Area 51 discussion
On a somewhat separate note...
I read Dwight's post on Yahoo and the wording makes me wonder if someone is cooking up a competing proposal such as a php based mailing list.

So... is there a mod to let people post via email?

Re: So... is there a mod to let people post via email?
IMHO...
As mentioned in the "area 51" forum which George linked below...
This could create a disjointed mess wherein we had an "almost" archive. Beyond that it's bound to require regular (and more) moderator intervention just to keep things straight and clean (such as deleting all the replies-to-replies-to-replies which contain fully quoted prior messages on the thread).
I would think that a fully moderated (approved post) system would really slow things down (along with requiring a LOT more moderator time). I can't see any of us wanting to become a slave to this thing, and just think of how much interaction would be lost at times when we all happened to wander off (sailing?) somewhere on the same weekend and there were no new posts for days. I think that would increase frustration for people seeking answers and drive them away from using the board.
Let's NOT jump into something like this at the moment

And you'll note that this is only for phpBB version 2, and we run version 3. The two are not compatible.

That's cool. Was just asking. Frankly I don't see a need for it myself. It sounds like the daily digest thing is causing enough trouble as it is.
Thanks
George
