Grounding Wire Question

Post by pcanavan »

New to the forum - happy to be a part of it.

A question I have is with a grounding wire that is corroded. I think this is the culprit of my rapid degradation of zincs this past year. I pulled the wires off the grounding plate, cleaned them, and was reattaching them.

However, there was one wire that was severely corroded and the ring terminal basically fell off. The wire itself is severly corroded. It is an 8 AWG wire (black cover) leading aft from the bilge apparently under the engine. I have tried tracing it in the boat but to no avail. Any idea where this wire leads to? Any an all suggestions are welcome.

Thank you all.

I think it more likely the corrosion and zinc depletion are both symptoms of the same problem. Are you attached to shore power? I would suggest there is some inter-boat cell being created.

Sorry can't help with the wire.

Thank you for the reply. I am not connected to shore power.

Do you have a way to isolate your battery completely when not in use? That would be something to try.
