Repower F45 CC

Post by pbfein »

Has anyone out there ever repowered a F45 CC? Curious about the route for getting the old engine out and the new one in. The yard I am working with is proposing disassembling the aft stateroom closet and taking the engine out the rear hatch. They feel this is easier than dismantling the galley sink counter and companionway.

Will keep this thread updated on the progress of our F45 CC repower journey. New Yanmar engine is being ordered this week.

This is finally happening. Working off of the yard's punch list, I have started dismantling the plumbing around the engine and the galley itself. New 4JH57 has just arrived. Will likely be a few more weeks before the the old engine is out.

Old engine ready for the crane. Thank you Archimedes. Cabinetry demo was not as bad as I thought as yard was able cleanly remove the front panel.

This project is complete. It has been quite a journey and we sea trialed in early November before putting her back to bed for winter. The normally aspirated 4JH57 is super smooth and quiet and powers at about 7 knts at 2K RPM in flat water with 3 bladed max-prop. Lots of cleanup work in wiring and plumbing along the way and still some work to go but the core is done. New exhaust hose all the way back as well was probably one of the larger jobs. It is going to be a long winter and can't wait to finally get her sailing in the Spring.

More pics. The yard built custom brackets for the 4jh57 to drop on the holes of the 4jhtbe including dealing with the height difference between front and back. No real glasswork in this project. We also installed a 1" intake seacock and a 8 gallon isotemp water heater.
