Forestay Chafing - Mull 28

Post by seawolf82 »

Hello All,

A few years ago the a wire in the forestay on our 28 (Mull designed) snapped due to chafing against the bowsprit. It seems when the jib is up, the camberspar pushes the stay forward and causes chafing. Has anyone else experienced this and are there any easy fixes for it? Attached is a picture of the replacement stay that has started to wear through again. Any insights would be greatly appreciated!

I use a length of Dyneema instead of wire and haven't had any problems.

I had this problem- 2 forestry’s ruined! For years I had a fix involving duct tape but now I pull the forestay forward to the bow pulpit, and also leave more flex in the camberspar fitting so it can adapt to different positions, and it doesn’t seem to be a problem.

Thank you all, we launched last week with a new forestay and are going to keep a closer eye on it. @Mutima - thanks for your tips, we will see if we can adjust the camberspar this weekend.
