Post by gulfcoastsailor »

Hi,

Any of the Freedom Owners in Europe have CE ratings? Just curious.

Any boat made in the EU before the time of the Recreational Craft Directive was deemed to meet the RCD, even if not CE marked. Since then, only vessels made in the EU to that standard are CE marked, unless subject to individual assessment. Probably a Freedom of the type which was EU manufactured (e.g F33/35 CK), and virtually identical, would be passed 'on the nod'. An individual can import and use a non-CE marked craft, but may not sell it in the EU within 5 years of importation.

That's my understanding of the rules, though I am open to correction. As for what the RCD standards are, you would need to do an internet search to find them. That should be straightforward; understanding them may not be quite so easy!
