for my 1981 F35
when i took off my mizzen mast, the screw that holds it in the mastfoot was overlooked and torn through.
any suggestions on what to do?: take off 3 cm?
spartite users - is 830 cc enough to replace 1 collar or will i need the bigger package?
regards,
Laurens

Laurens,
Don’t shorten your mast!! Just drill a new hole in mast and collar
to the left or right; or better still, two on each side, at 135
degrees from the front of the mast. With two long bolts you have a
good adjustment system to move around the mast base and fix it in the
right position (centreline-against aft side of collar)
About spartite: why use it? It’s expensive and does not make a
watertight seal, unless you glue mast, partners and collar all
together for eternity. Did you lose the polyurethane wedge around
the mast?
For water tightness you can make a collar from a truck inner tire and
4 large hoseclamps. Shove the tire sections around the mast before
you put the mast back in. Wrap ducttape around the tire collar or
make a canvas over collar to protect the rubber from UV radiation.

If it were me I would repair the damage rather then shorten the mast.
I would fiberglass on the inside. Fill the holes and if there is enough space between the mast and collar fiberglass the outside.
Then drill new holes for the set screws/pins.
