33 Cat Ketch Swim Platform

We have a 33 Cat Ketch located in Southern California. We tend to be fair weather day sailors and the family spends as much time in the water as on it. However climbing up the transom ladder is getting more challenging as I get older. Also hauling my water dogs and scuba gear out is painful.

Before deciding to look for something with better water access wanted to ask if anyone has examples of swim platforms that work with the CK’s barn door rudder. Also wanted to know about the next level and ask if anyone has seen a CK with a small retrofitted transom door. Not sure about flex and if it is even possible and I would have to look at a different rigging as well for the traveler

I realize this may not be possible, but we really like it otherwise and would prefer not to get something else. Any help is appreciated

Saw this picture on one. Hope that helps alex

The Freedom 35 CK “Mir” was listed for sale last year or so. She had a large swim platform with a cut out for the rudder. I can’t find the listing anymore, or I’d post a photo.

Can I suggest you consider installing a deep swim/rescue ladder on the side of the boat….around midships…easily deployed…on a universal joint at the front…on a rest at the aft end. An idea I copied from an Amel. We have used it a lot. Also if you have an MOB in rougher water, the aft end is a poor choice for recovery….

Arrows show aft rest and fwd pivot point

Thanks for the responses. It helps to see how other people mount platforms. And the pivoting side mount rescue ladder is a really good idea that I will also look at as well.

Did you see this post of Lotus’ walk thru stern and swim platform? Lotus, a totally refurbished Freedom 33

happy sailing and swimming
