Hi y’all,
What did you do with your weekend? Well, on Saturday I finish sanded the boat; cleaned off the sanding residue; applied her registration numbers and new name (Teke’s Pride). I was going to replace all of the running rigging as well, but I had left my color chart (what color/length line was for what use) in Huntsville so that was a no go. Called it quits about 6 and drove home.
Sunday, I got up early and drove to Guntersville and attended the 10:30 service at the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany. This got me to the marina by noon. Armed with my color chart I spent the next 5 hours rigging the boat (including a new spinnaker launch sleeve from Haarstick) and bending on the sails. A short trip to Wal-Mart to get a couple of fenders to protect the new paint from the pier and Teke’s Pride was in the water by 6pm. I only sailed for about 30 min. but in that time I was able to raise and retrieve the spinnaker by myself. I had a bit of trouble getting the boat back onto the trailer. In the end I damaged the trailer and the boat is not on it very stable. It was dark by then so I parked the boat and trailer and went home the Huntsville.
I did not get any pictures this weekend. I will try and get some next time out! I got a lot of positive feedback on my paint job.
There is a race this Saturday with an 11am skippers meeting. I think that I will try to make this one. I will leave the boat in the water on Saturday evening and try to repair the damage on Sunday.

Just curious… you mentioned that you put a ‘new name’ on the boat. Was it previously named? And if so did you perform the ritual renaming ceremony?— On Mon, 10/6/08, Clark Myers <cdmyers1@…> wrote:

Teke’s Pride

Hi Dave,
The boats original name was “Winner’s Bitch”. Her first owner showed
dogs and had a bitch that won a lot of shows thus the unusual name.
Teens and 20s loved the name but the ladys of my club (including the
commador) didn’t. A member of Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity (such as
myself) is commonly refered to as a Teke and I am taking great pride
in my F21 thus the new name.
While I did remove all old markings and anything aboard that had the
old name, I did not perform any pagan ceremonies (even in jest). I
had a bottle of Austi Spumanti in the truck but in my haste to launch
before dark I forgot to christen the boat. Maybe that is why I had
so much trouble getting her back onto her trailer. I will be sure to
use it next weekend! I do plan to have a priest bless the boat in
the near future.

Hey Clark,
That would certainly be a very nice touch with the Austi Spumanti… good choice. With respects to the priest… well, to each there own. I’m not aware of any holier water than that which crissens you boat each day. It’s all good. I am playing with the concept of remaining my new boat (I still have my F21 ‘Havana’ for fun times) but the new one a Hunter 27 is named Zig-Zag that I would like to rename. I do not necessarily live under the strict premises of luck but when playing with the forces of Mother Nature and that of the Seas I’m a wee bit concerned about playing with things that have been so dear to so many sailers. http://boatsafe.com/nauticalknowhow/rename.htm
Cheers to your new boat and its name!
