I shared this with Allen McClung and he enjoyed it so I am sharing it
with you.
I was parusing the boats listed on Craigslist
http://www.craigslist.com in the Los Angeles area and came across a
bargain boat listing from December 17th. I missed the deal by one
day. I wrote to the seller afterword to find out what I missed. This
is his reply:
“It was a 33’Hunter sailboat,1980 model: needs bottom paint, some
minor electrical work, but is sailable and engine runs. Inboard
diesel Yanmar, full accompaniement of sails, roller furling, new
interior. I just wanted to get it off my hands to stop the monthly
slip and maintenance fees. It’s a great boat for someone who knows
boats and is interested in bringing it back to pristine condition.
And, lets face it, for $500, I know it was a steal. Next time, I
would certainly ask more. The buyer offered twice my asking pric,
sight unseen. I was inundated with over 100 voice/e-mails in the
week since posting the ad. I would have asked more just to avoid
such a heavy response, not because I reallly needed the money. Good

As soon as I read the ad, I was dreaming of sailing the boat to the
east coast through the Panama Canal.
Oh well…
