Alteration of Stern Pulpit on F32 (Hoyt)

Posted by walestom (twales@…>)

I have been considering cutting the top rail between the inside posts
on my stern pulpit making it easier to board from the stern ladder. I
would add a piece of lifeline cable and pelican hook. Does anyone
have any experience with this type of change? Any thoughts on how
this might effect the strength and integrity of the stern pulpit?
Thanks,

I have it my F33c/b . Although we board through a starbord gate, it makes re-boarding after a swim much easier. “Yankee Belle”---- walestom wrote:

I don’t have any experience with
changing on an F32 but my F33 was set up the way you describe in its orginal
construction. Just a lifeline and pelican hook between the two separate pieces
of stern rail.

I cut out both the top and middle rails on my F30. I bought SS bullets
and capped off the middle stubs and mounted a pelican hook between the
top ends, appropriately capped. I made a sunbrella cover for the swim
latter with padding such that with the ladder pulled up it becomes a
reasonably comfortable back rest.

I also made a curved seat and the picture was posted sometine ago.

Would you please send me a picture of that also. I would love to do that and have bought a pelican hook and looked at the cap ends at West Marine. Did you just use a set screw to hold them in? That would make me a bit nervous, but if that is how it works that is what I’ll do.
